Brunt Hills, NY October 13, 2019 - Three Pompton Lakes Residents Win Gold and Silver At Morris Judo Cup

Brunt Hills, NY – Three Judo Competitors from Pompton Lakes, NJ competed at the Jason Morris Judo Cup in Brunt Hills, NY Sunday, October 13, 2019 and brought home 2 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal in the U18 Divisions. 

 

 -        Ramon Hernandez Jr of Pompton Lakes        U18 -81kg Division                  Gold

Ramon shows a great ability in NeWaza (Ground Fighting) and displays good balance as he breaks the balance of his opponents yesterday. 

-        Justin Johnstone of Pompton Lakes               U18 -73kg Division                  Gold

Justin is working on a new Kata Guruma (Firemans Carry) and it paid off yesterday with a full point throw.

-        Korab Zhuta of Pompton Lakes                      U18 -100kg Division                Silver

Korab shows good defense and ability to grip yesterday.

-        James Holder of Central Jersey                      U18 -81kg/-100kg Division      Silver & Gold

James showed a strong lefty stance and very good foot sweap to open up his game.  James is from Central Jersey and comes to train with our members frequently.

The Morris Cup is run by 4X US Judo Olympian, 1992 Olympic Silver Medalist in Judo and 2008 US Judo Olympic Coach.  He runs this event every year and draws competitors from Canada and all over the North East United States.

 Notes from Coach Ramon Hernandez: Tournament was run well and had 6 competition areas.  A big thanks to Jason, Teri and the rest of his staff for running a great event.  All of our competitors did well.
