He lost in the second round to fight all the way back to the medal round his 7th match where he got his 2nd loss. This placed him 5th overall in the event. The work Junior has put in this year is paying off and this weekend was a big confidence booster. Junior has a rigorous training schedule not just here at his home club North Jersey Judo in Pompton Lakes, NJ but he also travels up-state NY to train with 4X US Judo Olympian, 1992 US Judo Olympic Silver Medalist and 2008 US Judo Olympic Head Coach Jason Morris every Thursday, Friday and Saturday for 5 tough training sessions with the JMJC crew. It’s a partnership between the two clubs that is paying off says Ramon Hernandez Sr club owner of North Jersey Judo and Ramon Junior’s dad and coach. Junior is training like the pros do and we are bringing all that back what he has learned and teaching it to our NJJ Base. Ramon Hernandez Senior travels up with his son every Thursday to see the curriculum and talk to Jason directly as they plan for Junior future tournament and training schedule. Jason Morris and his wife Teri Takemori run the Jason Morris Judo Center in Glenville, NY that have produced 3 US Judo Olympians and US Judo National Champions into the 40s. Jason and Teri both are tremendous resources and it’s a big boost for the local clubs near by. Although it’s a two-hour trek for both father and son when they travel up-state NY we are lucky that it’s only that. JMJC is home to young men and women from all over the United States.
Ramon Junior will now travel to compete at two USA Judo Roster Point Events next weekend the Dallas Judo Invitational and the USA Judo Presidents Cup in Dallas, TX back to back events before the Thanksgiving Break.
